Need amp advice

Hey Guys,

So I'm taking bass classes and we need to bring our amp with us. Right now I'm using my buddies behringer thunderbird. I'd like to buy my own. I checked out the fender rumble 15 and ampeg ba-108 they were kind of heavy and cumbersome.
Any suggestions as to something more compact that I can take to class and possibly something good enough to use if I can hook up with others in beginning jam sessions. So smaller, good quality, decent volume - around 300 bucks. Any such animal?

Used markbass little mark ll or little mark lll. Saw one in the classifieds today for that price. Great amp, I use the LM ll with an Aguilar DB112 & DB112NT, great rig!

That's what I was thinking, Ampeg BA108 too cumbersome???:confused: might be playing the wrong instrument. Sax, trombone etc.... :D
I'd think at least 100 watts -at LEAST & , again at least a standard 1x15" or 2x10" cab. Same applies for a "combo" (all in one) set up.
At least 100w & 1x 15", 2x10" speakers.
A good quality 1x12" would just do it to I s'pose.

How about this. Is there something a bit more compact and better than say the Fender Rumble or the Ampeg 108? As CL400Peavey said, "Light, loud, low price..." pick two. Ok how about light and loud? Forget about my $300 limit.

The fender rumble 15 is pretty small and light - 8" speaker, 16"x14"x9.25" and 22 lbs. I highly doubt you are going to find something smaller and louder.

Light and loud has plenty of options - Markbass CMD121P, any of the GK MB series combos..

Do you have any sites/links that would explain to a newbie (could you tell?) about the head/cab setup? Would that be the way to go if you were serious about getting great bass sound?

I forgot the TC electronics combo. It's like 250 watts and would probably be a good starter combo for you. It's also very light and from I hear, loud too. I still GK would be the way to go. Great tone, light, pretty loud. Do your research on the suggested combos and I'm sure you'll find one to your liking. Just google reviews.

Ljorges, there is a sticky file at the begining of the amps section Amps FAQ. This is a group of posts that deal with the various aspects of amps. Also when you go out, talk to the bass players and see what they have to say about equipment.
