I would call Peavey immediately. This is unacceptable. While you're at it, ask Peavey if in fact they ARE out of stock. You need to let someone there at Peavey know what kind of BS that GC is telling you. Wow. This really makes me mad and I am not even YOU.

So next time you see this dummy, ask him if that means they don't exchange broken tube amps without a separate gain/master, because turning up the master and cranking gain is the exact same thing. I predict his answer will be even more stupid...something along the lines of "They don't make amps without a separate gain and master."

Yep. There's an entirely separate tap on the power transformer for nothing but firing up the filaments that produce the heat that encourages the electrical reactions in tubes. This is also why any guitar player saying "I gotta turn up loud so my tubes get warmed up" is proof they have no idea what they are talking about. Sure things react differently at higher gains but the tiny bit of extra heat is a byproduct not the cause. Most of the heat is there even at the lowest of volumes.

I was pretty pissed at the beginning and middle stages of all this, and then again after the GC nonsense. Already planning on calling peavey about them being out of stock on monday to make sure this isn't another situation of some GC employee talking out of their rear end.

They probably were lying, they didn't want me to go through with the exchange I could tell. Especially when I told them why I wanted to stick with the VB-2 (I like the sound of all tube amps), and their response was "you would be better off by switching to something boutique like markbass".

*I'm not trying to badmouth peavey, they have been nothing but willing to help in this whole situation and very understanding. Most of the issues in one way or another have come from some sort of guitar center related incident.

I think at this point you should go INTO the store, and DEMAND LOUDLY a refund in front of everyone, talking loudly, point out that you already have approval that the amp should be exchanged. You decided against the exchange and you want your money back. From there you can go to an online store or another store near your locality and buy one that's already in stock. Oh and if there are problems you won't have to deal with idiots, hopefully.

That's the thing. I really DON'T want a refund, I like the amp and just want one that works like its supposed to. + my refund would be horrible since I used some sort of coupon combined with a trade in to get around 160$ off in the first place.

Once this ordeal is over I really don't have any other excuses to ever go back into a GC.

All this mess and they want you to buy another amp from them? Wow. And yes, at this point, taking another amp home would be akin to buying it, regardless of who made it. Note I'm not saying anything good or bad about any amp manufacturer.
Either way, I hope this whole mess is resolved to your satisfaction.
Back to brewing beer...

So they have no clue how an amplifier works, yet insist they know, and then try to sell you something you don't want. :rollno:

That one of several reasons I avoid GC whenever possible. Vote with your wallet and leave....after you spend some time correcting these idiots as they're pushing their BS on some other customers.

Well, you may be kinda stuck then. Just keep demanding until you get taken care of. Sometimes it helps to be an a$$hole.

That is hilarious. If GC carries it then by definition it is NOT a boutique amplifier.

I emailed the person who had been working on my amplifier at peavey HQ and I will be seeing whether or not GC was telling the truth about all of this. I plan on printing his response and shoving it down the managers throat if it turns out they had tried to deceive me again.

Wow, it's scary that you have people working at a music store with such incompetence. It reminds me of a story my old guitarist told me. He needed a new jack for his EMG-loaded Charvel. He went to a local small chain (not a GC) and asked for a stereo jack. The GM was rather incredulous at the request: "Guitars use a mono jack!" My guitarist explained that, normally yes, but active pickups require a stereo jack. The GM got more belligerent about it. Finally, the GM called someone at the sister store, and then stammered about after getting off the phone, "Uh...yeah...technically you do need a stereo jack...but you can use a mono jack as long as you take the battery out after you're done playing."

My guitarist went to RadioShack and picked up a stereo jack for his Charvel. :smug:

Lol! I remember trying to buy a stereo jack at a local store and the owner didn't know what a stereo jack was, or why some guitars/basses need it. He does have a nice bass stock though.

Well I gave peavey a call and asked about them not having any ready until another month and they were unable to disclose the information. It looks like ill just have to go a 3rd month without an amp.

Which really sucks because we had some gigs lined up for December.

Wow, bummer. Maybe had you told Peavey that you were going to post their reply on TalkBass.com they may have given you an answer - just a thought. ;)
