Need head recommendation.

I am looking to buy a backup head for my SVT CL. I am running 2-SVT 212 AVs (sometimes one). These are 600W 4 Ohm cabs so the head should do 4 and 2 Ohms. I am hoping to economize such that I can. I've found some heads that fit the bill but most are hybrids and expensive. Can anyone point me to an economical SS head?

Check out a used ampeg portaflex, similar sound to your svt, or as good you'll get out of a smaller amp.
I'm very pleased with my fender rumble 350, the v2. There's on in the classifieds on here for 250

You could run 4Ω per side with a Hartke LH1000. Old pre tour series Peaveys, but they'll weigh about as much as your SVT.

I think this is one of the most inexpensive solutions, plus many good comments about this amp out there.

An easy, light, not horridly expensive solution that will keep close to your tone? Two used PF-350s, one slaved to the other. That's what I do when using two cabs. If I'm only using one, I only bring one PF. This keeps my Ampeg tone, is light, inexpensive, and a quick changeover.

+1. I picked up a used PF-500 for a song and use it as a backup for my V-4B/dual 112AV rig, or when I need a smaller rig.

The LH1000 is a simple head, keep in mind the EQ is a passive fender tone stack so the mids are cut only.

The Hartke LH1000 as several have mentioned. Inexpensive, loaded with power BUT it's not going to sound ANYTHING like an Ampeg. Very modern sound and not for everyone. Ashdown ABM 900 will cost more but not terrible used.

That Hartke looks like what I'm after. That's okay that it sounds different than my Ampeg-I'm sure I can coax some useable tones out of it with some knob twiddling. Time to check the classifieds.

Carvin. I ran a 2 ohm load on B2000 for years, no issues. I sold it because it was extremely heavy. Now it was around 10 pounds. 1900 watts into 2 ohm load. Around 600$ I believe..

More than a few responders to the thread are not reading your qualifier that you need the amp to be 2ohm capable, and that's a tougher thing to track down. I don't think you can do that with an older GB head unless you get a ShuttleMax.

The Hartke recommendations are probably decent for a backup.

Older GB Class D, meaning before Shuttles, they had 2ohm semi micro amps.

Run your cabs in series! 8 ohms vs. 4 ohms is barely noticeable if you have the amp to push it.
