Need help choosing a bass

I've been off the market for bass guitars for a while now so I have no idea what is currently good and what I might want but an opportunity came to me and I can get my hands on a 1200-1500Euro bass guitar.

I know this thread doesn't make sense but bear with me, this might be epic (for me)!

I hear the 2010 Fender models are decent, any opinions on the MIA Std. 5-string P-bass? I also heard that Sandberg make very good hand-made Fender-like basses for a similar price...

Ok I just read that 1500 Euro's is about 2000 US( a little more!)......I bought a Fender V American P Bass and it cost me here in the states about $1500....Its a beautiful sounding bass (passive , etc ) . Fenders are the standard, its that simple. One make that I would look into is Washburn, they make great instruments and I know that their 5 strings start at about $500. I am a big Sandberg fan. In my opinion, Sandberg instruments are of a higher quality than Fender standard American counter-parts.

Yes, a Fender P-bass is an industry standard, but Sandberg basses offer so much more tonal possibilites and the craftsmanship is of a very high level. If you are located in Europe (like myself) then I can say that you should really go with the Sandberg.

To me, a modern Fender cannot beat a Sandberg (unless the Fender is pure custom shop). I would even go as far as to say that a good Sandberg can give a Sadowsky a run for its money.

The Sandberg California Prcesion basses are great (especially the ones with the MM style pickup and the split precision style pickup).
