Need Help Choosing a Punchy Bass

Easy, G&L L2000 or L1500. I've owned just about everything, those are the only basses I sold because they were TOO punchy.

That's quite a recommendation. Is it that bridge MM pickup, body material or something else? I'll have to keep my eye out for one (to try).

I've found my SX to be a little less punchy through the stock pickups than some Fenders I've tried, but punchy as hell when not plugged in. I think a new set of pickups will help that, but I'm not quite ready to take the plunge.

I'm lucky/stupid enough to own 22 bass guitars. Mostly Fender Ps and Js, one 'Ray.
...
Some flat wounds are also punchy.

Wow! Lucky guy. :)

Where do you keep them all? I feel overwhelmed with my two uprights, two electrics and a guitar... I just ordered two more wall-mounts to help ease my anxiety.

I have flatwounds on my fretless jazz (which I keep in NY) and they're ok. Probably enough to balance out the smoothness of the fretless sound.

I honestly think that everything contributes to the punchiness of a G&L. But it's mostly the electronics I think. They have so many options and variations. Active, passive, vintage, modern. I think it's probably one of the most versatile basses on the market IMO.
