Need Help Fiding My DREAM bass.

I just got what I thought would be my dream bass about 3 weeks ago...Sadly enough, like most cool and unique looking basses the build quality and playability aren't quite as good as the looks. I bought a NOS Traben Bootsy Star bass from an online store, so of course I didn't get to try it before buying it. I love the way it looks, and the way the 5 Fat Bastard J Pickups sound, but the neck seems to be made out of hard rubber, or something other than wood. I'm a huge fan of the Fender Jazz and Jaguar basses, the tone, the build quality, etc... But I want something that really stands out. Maybe even a little gaudy. I'm looking for something that if Elvis was black and played funk, he would buy. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got a silver sparkle G&L ASAT, and I'd say they really nail the Fender vibe. Very versatile setup between the series/parallel choices; lots of various Fender tones in there and it's a very aggressive voice. Not my particular fav, but it does sound like a G&L might be right up your alley...

Thanks for the help. I'm looking for something with a cool, unique body and headstock shape. I really like this Bootsy Bass, but just want a little better build quality, with better materials. Anyone know of someone building a BETTER Bootsy bass? I've seen the Washburn model, but it's no longer in production, and I've never seen a used one for sale. The more rhinestones and chrome the better. lol

JUST SWAP THE PUPS AND YOURE MONEY :D

Is the Bootsy neck bolted on the body? If so just remove the neck and ask a luthier to make a new neck for you. You will also be able to chose among different woods if you wish, like pau ferro, wenge, purpleheart.
