Double Bass Need help finding my insides(strings)!

Hi all!

Looking to complete my "perfect" set of strings for my bass. I have a top Flexocor Heavy-G and a bottom extended Flat Chromesteel. Those sound amazing, and then I put Permanents in the middle, and they sound okay. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I should put in the middle? I play a big ol' bass, lots of orchestral stuff.

I've tried a couple different pirastro sets, but I can't really remember.

I would suggest that you try filling the insides with what you know sounds "amazing" on the outside.

Try the flexocore heavys. Maybe a Spirocore medium long C to match tension wise

I did try the Spirocore C and it sucked. It was honestly the first string I ever truly hated lol.

You’ve hurt me....

But in all seriousness it’s not for everyone. I would say try flexocore heavy on the AD and see if that setup works. A perminant low C string has good tension if the flexocores on top make the your low C feel weak

Flex 92 Stark all the way across is a really good set for serious arco playing.

Or you could hunt until you find a set of vintage Flexocors from back when they wound a silver wire around the pegbox-end silks.

I have a set of those on my arco bass and they’re so much better than anything Pirastro offers today.
