Need help identificating this Newsted bass

I would like to know what bass Jason is using in this picture, also the same bass seems to appear on several others, incluiding photoshoots as the garage days one, everyone seems to agree that it is an esp surveyor, but i don't think the headstock matches

It definitely says "ESP" on the head stock.

If I remember correctly, the one on the cover of Garage Days Re-Revisited is a Warmoth parts bass or something…or perhaps a Fender body with an ESP Fender replacement neck. Back in the 80’s, ESP was making parts, too.
It doesn’t seem to have a brand logo, but it’s got some nice Bird’s Eye…

my understanding is that one is a warmoth parts bass, blank headstock with heavy birdseye figuring, and the body does not have a pickguard. this is the bass he owned when he auditioned and joined Metallica

the latter is an esp, most likely given to him as an endorsement. in the photo I attached you can see the esp headstock has the same shape as the surveyor

Yes, I had an ESP 400 just like it back in 90s...I made some demos with it and it was a fantastic bass. I eventually sold it here on TB...the fella that bought it MUST have known the about the Newsted connection (I had no idea ..LOL) cause he jumped on it like it was the holy grail
