I need a little help identifying this old case... all I know for certain is it's at least early1980's, maybe 1970's. I can't find a brand on it anywhere, but it's a pretty ordinary, and common design from back then. The hardware is all (nearly) identical to my own mid-80's Alembic case, but the interior has orange velour rather than blue or black fuzz.

For starters, it definitely doesn't fit a regular scale Fender P or J. Judging by the padding, I'd guess whatever it held must have had a rounder lower bout, like say a Gibson or Stingray. Possibly a shorter scale too.

Critical measurements:

exterior: 47" × 15" × 4" (L-W-D)

interior: 45" × 14" × 2-1/2" (estimated)

Allowing for padding, the case would comfortably hold a bass of 44" total length. As you can see from the pictures, it was designed to hold the instrument diagonally.

After I figure out what it fits or how to accurately represent it, I will list it for sale in the TalkBass Classifieds, so PLEASE DO NOT post offers here or guess-timate what the value might be. Let's leave that for the PM's once it's posted over there.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure about the vintage and make... late 70's, G & G, boilerplate. There must have been hundreds of thousands of cases that look like that, and made to fit every guitar or bass imaginable. It's been an educational search for sure.

I did talk to one TB'r who thinks it might indeed be fitted for a MusicMan Stingray. It does closely match the advertised dimensions of a *new* Stingray case, but not sure if that means an earlier one would fit... gotta' verify that...
