Need Help - No sound

Wow .... not to derail the thread (I'm good at that) .....

But where in the world is a school that still has Band Class (and lets you play bass??!!?) and also has a Robotics Teacher? (Sorry, that just blows my mind).

I graduated High school in 1996, and they de-funded the music program here in 1993 or 1994, iirc. And no one would have been allowed to play string instruments; brass, woodwind and percussion only ....... I have mentioned that the only foreign language class offered were French and Spanish, and people do not believe me ...... what a world!

Yeah. I graduated in 1971 and the levy had failed the year before, so we had Stage Band at 7:00 AM and the director volunteered. Nothing passes the next levy better than parents having to shuttle their kids to school an hour and a half earlier than normal.

Graduated in '98 and we had band, jazz band, marching band, orchestra, choir, and keyboard (piano). We also had a shop class which I now wish I had taken. That same school still has most of those things as far as I know and also has a robotics class and medical courses. And this is in Florida!

Yeah, this completely blows my mind. (Medical courses?? We didn't even have a nurse on the grounds ...) I guess I do have to take into account the fact that our graduating class had only 93 people; and like a dozen or so of them were graduating Juniors.

It's amazing the difference in geography makes in the opportunities a person has.
I'm not complaining. I realize I could have been born in Mozambique. Or the Congo.

I live in a suburb of Vancouver, BC and my daughter plays bass in high school band (actually she played in elementary school as well). The previous band teacher apparently almost killed the program, but the current one has been building it up for a couple of years now.
I believe they also have a robotics program. I know they have a 3D printer - which is giving me ideas for bass builds.

Our school has traditional band and orchestra, as well as some music production classes. My first bass lives in the AV studio for students to cut their teeth on. Also got a pretty cool robotics program that was kind enough to let our SpEd kids participate in the club. Good people, robot folk.

We once had a guitar amp that some dingbat put a balanced 1/4" jack in for the input so we had to keep the metal part that touches the ring from touching the sleeve and causing problems, so we melted a bit of plastic fork in there to keep it from contacting and to my knowledge it's still "fixed" that way. :roflmao:

My twins are in a public middle school in Colorado. They have orchestra, band (that allows electric bass), chorus, drama, theater, art, foreign languages, industrial engineering, programming/coding classes and robotics classes during school hours as electives. In addition, they also have Jazz band after school as well as several other clubs and other after school activities. Their school district has not really been affected by funding cuts due to a bond to cover lapses in funding from the state. The high schools have even more opportunities. They are really fortunate but we moved into this district for the programs that they offer their students.

It saddens me that all schools don't offer their students these programs; it should be standard across all schools. These types of programs help students emotionally and socially. In addition, these courses help kids develop life-long skills that are so beneficial in all walks of life.
