need help on bass sound for band please!

American J -Bass huh... Well first thing I'll say is DO NOT DITCH ur effects...It seems a couple of people are really pushin for you to do that. Why, people?

What have you tried as far as your pick-up configuration? For the sound that you described, I wouldn't mind hearing your effected bass on the Bridge pick-up solely and then maybe play with your midrange on your amp to get a bit more clarity. That would be a cool "signature" sound I think. I find that pedals like overdrives tend to respond well on that pickup. And with the octaver..IDK sounds like a winner to me.

as far as pick up configuration i dont really mess with that at all. these are all things i will have to try. i dont really want to ditch the pedals but i do want a loud clear agressive tone.

blend your signal.

get a boss ls-2. Blend in your unnaffected signal into your affected one. You'll have all your crazy effects and distortion but your notes will be accentuated and clearer. I blend my fuzz and my preamp with clean signal.

...try each pedal one at a time to see what they "bring to the table". Then try them in combinations, swapping which one is first in the chain.

Record your gigs to hear how your tone FOH. Maybe post some files on TB and get some opinions.

Possibly go wireless or get a long cord and go FOH during sound check to get a better perspective on what the audience hears.

well after the show we played the other day they were like your tone sounds really bad. but when we practice they said they like it. i never really fully liked it though. i was just going with the best i can do. i will also try blending my signal. what do you mean FOH?

In my opinion...

1. Dump all the pedals, flatten out the EQ.
2. Find a sound with bass, SVT, 810 that you like.
3. Add in pedals to taste to enhance the sound rather than detract.

Often more is just more and more becomes less very quickly.

yeah im learning more is becoming less very quickly. most places we play wont have sound checks or sound guys or mixing boards. like we have been playing bars, vfw halls, people living rooms, where ever and anywhere we are offered a show haha.
