need help on bass sound for band please!

American J -Bass huh... Well first thing I'll say is DO NOT DITCH ur effects...It seems a couple of people are really pushin for you to do that. Why, people?

What have you tried as far as your pick-up configuration? For the sound that you described, I wouldn't mind hearing your effected bass on the Bridge pick-up solely and then maybe play with your midrange on your amp to get a bit more clarity. That would be a cool "signature" sound I think. I find that pedals like overdrives tend to respond well on that pickup. And with the octaver..IDK sounds like a winner to me.
 
...try each pedal one at a time to see what they "bring to the table". Then try them in combinations, swapping which one is first in the chain.

Record your gigs to hear how your tone FOH. Maybe post some files on TB and get some opinions.

Possibly go wireless or get a long cord and go FOH during sound check to get a better perspective on what the audience hears.
