Need help solving WIFI interference in studio monitors or recommend me shielded ones please

Hi!

I was just about to upgrade my Presonus Eris 4.5 pair for something a bit better (going down to lower frequencies and remaining flat) and I was blaming the monitors for a constant crackling that ends up being wifi interference. We changed the router lately, so it explains the problem just happened. I’ve tried to plug the monitors further away from the router and the crackling was gone. That specific noise occurs when nothing is plugged into the monitors, so it’s not a wiring issue.

I can’t move either the router or the home studio setup. So I’m looking for a solution to stop that interference. Luckily, non of my amps suffer from that interference, only the monitors.

Is there shielded monitors for that situation (under $350 a pair)? Is there a simple way to solve this?

Weird - never experienced wifi interference. Did you eliminate other sources? Eg. mobile phones, computer monitor etc.?

Edit: Could be the cables running to your speakers picking up RF. You could try some shielded cables.

If the problem only occurs when the input is empty, plug something in! It seems that the inputs are not automatically silenced when empty, and inputs are very high impedance, so they are susceptible to interference. You could also make a couple of simple shorting plugs with a resistor (10K maybe, or maybe just a piece of wire) between hot and ground and keep them silenced when not using. You cannot hurt anything this way.

For a moment there I felt stupid heading down the basement with a cookie sheet and placing it on top of a monitor but… it works!
Actually, any metallic object seems to do the trick.
