I assume this means you've got things straightened out? I wonder if you could steel wool that radial pattern into the top of the concentric knob. That or replace just the top control with a smaller diameter version of the other vintage stereo style knobs you've got...
Yes, got it all straightened out. soldering in tight places is very very frustrating. lol.
Yea that concentric knob bums me out a little bit. Steel wool might be a good idea.
So on to the Bart's and the Bart sound. hmmmmm. I didn't realize that when in passive I have no treble control. In Passive they sound, hmmmm trying to find the right word. Not muddy, but not crisp that is for certain. (maybe it's the inherent mid bump on them??) So I dial in some treble on the amp and it's pretty good.
Ok the preamp. very very very sensitive. Everything flat, yet there is treble, like a passive j bass with the treble knob halfway up. Gobs of bass, gobs of mids, and a lot of treble. Just a tiny turn is all you need or beware.
Oddly when the treble is turned all the way down it doesn't get the traditional burpy mid muffle thing that I get on my J basses.
Another interesting sound is both pickups together. Ok, in active mode, they sound great alone or slightly blended. But when I set the blend to center detent the sound decreases a tiny bit. It's there, the good stuff at 50% blend but sounds buried. I am wondering if a V/V would be better than the volume/blend?
The P pickup sounds great, the J sounds great. I also ran it passive into an Aguilar tone hammer pedal and that sounded better to my ears than the Bart pre.
I will make some sound clips to show what I am taking about with the pickups.
