Need help with a car problem.

Sorry, but I've never been much of a car guy. With that said...I was driving around tonight and the fan for my heater suddenly started slowing down to the point of nothing. I turned the dial for the fan all the way down, waited a few minutes, turned it back up and the fan was blowing full tillt. But after about a minute it did the same thing...went down to nothing. I tried it a few more times and the same thing happened over and over. Oh yeah.....as ithe fan was slowing down I could hear what sounded like a low, grinding sound. Not real loud, but just enough where I could hear it

The car is a 2005 Ford Focus. Again, I'm no mechanic. Is this a hassle to try and fix myself? Any suggestions?

Sounds like the bearing going bad. When it runs...heats up/binds. Shut off cools down, frees up.

When the fan is cold do you get slow medium and fast speeds?

If so then it's not the resistor assembly or actuator. I'm going to agree with HE on the bearing guesstimate.

If you can find a blower fan picture and the resistor set is on or next to the blower fan, just replace both and save yourself the time and headaches later.
