Need help with recording with DI on a Markbass amp

Right! So if I understand it right, would this cable be good to solve my problem?

Well, as it is now, it is not correct! So needs to be addressed in any case.

My supposition is that all of the combined details will address the issue:

Correct XLR female to TRS male cable. (get a good one! the example you linked looks fine)
Switch set to Line (Solo)
Adjust the line signal at the amp (CMD 102) far right.
Adjust the gain on the Solo so it shows green (not red)

* Also check the GAIN on the input channel on your software DAW (recording software) Ableton?

How are you monitoring the instrument while recording? it's possible that the distortion is in the gain stages in the software....

I've done all except to switch out the cable, so I'll get a new one and I'll see.

The gain in Cubase is completely fine, it's that no matter how low or high the gain is, the distorted noise is still there. (the bass signal is also there)

Well the thing is, the distorted noise happens only when I try to record with line out in the amp. Everything is alright when I go straight into the interface

According to your manual, you can't use the xlr input because its only mic level. So, why use an altered cable at all? Just run a standard quarter inch instrument cable from the effect send on your amp, into input 2. Problem solved.

Why can’t you set your amp’s DI output to mic level?

That plus an XLR-XLR cable is the solution intended by both the amp manufacturer and ivy interface manufacturer.
I looked at the manual that was posted for that amp, and I didn't see a pad or attenuation of any kind on his di out. It says simply "line out" in the manual. My amps (except one) all have a -40 db pad switch on them. But, I have noticed that if I send a pre eq signal, my output is sky rocketed compared to my post eq. So, I hit the switch if I'm running pre, flip it off if I'm running post. That could be a similar thing on his too. Maybe setting the amp flat, and running post eq could drop that gain on his DI? Whatever way his particular output and features work, running out the send will for sure work. An effects loop is designed to feed pedals. Know what I mean? Can't go wrong with that. Well...you'd think, I should say.
 
@agedhorse The XLR is labeled as line out. On the amp and in the manual.

The line out has a control for line level on the face of the amp.
There is no provision or control to alter this signal type to MIC.
Using the effect send on these amps could work but is an unbalanced signal . This may be noisy.
For that matter, he could use the tuner out.

Looking at the specs for the Sacrlett gen 2, there shouldn't be any problem using the line out into the mic input of the interface with the line output turned down some.

Here's from the interface manual:

This shows a maximum input level of +4dBu, and the amp has a maximum output level of +23dBu, so with the line output control turned down, this will reduce the MOL to an acceptable value.

I confirmed that the line output control will adjust the signal level at the DI output all the way from mic level to line level.

The solution you need is already provided with the equipment you have and the XLR-XLR cable.

Thank you so much. Do you also reckon that plugging into the instrument/line input with an XLR-TRS cable will work? Because when I tried the recording, I was plugging in with a TS cable and not TSR.
 
I don't know how the instrument input handles a TRS connector and what actually happens when the ring is not connected to the ground.

Just use a standard mic cable (XLR-XLR) and turn the line output down. If that doesn't work, one of the 2 pieces are broken or defective.
 
No, your di states thst it's line level though. With no switching capabilities. Have you tried switching between post and pre eq though? I said earlier that my amp has a pretty drastic increase in levels between the two options. Post being much tamer.
There's a level control for the DI output that will reduce the line level to zero if desired. It doesn't need switching because it's variable.
