Need information on a cabinet

I am new to the whole bass thing and trying to determine the
appropriate bass cabinet to get .

I have a 5 string bass with lollar pickups , made by Wes Lamb for me.

I bought a Reeves 225 head .

Now , it's time to pick out the speaker cabinet .

I called Reeves to inquire about the specifications on his 15" speaker
and he did not know them and said he would have to find the paper work on it .

I am very leery about buying any cabinet without reading the specifications on the speaker . There are just too many factors to
take into consideration .

I want to know the range .

I want a nice , round , focused , clear tone .
I need it to be strong and articulate with those warm overtones
the tubes give .

I know that cabinet design is a factor and construction is important ,
but the speaker needs to be tight not muddy .

So , Anyone know the sound or specs on the Reeves cabinet ?

Or , a great 15 " recommendation ?

My favorite single 15" cab is the TL design, and I prefer the sealed 2x15" cabs over that... (i.e. Vox T-100 and Fender's smaller 2x15 Showman from mid 60s).

The cab I use the most on stage is half of a TL806 Q (ported 2x12), and the one I prefer to use whenever possible is a single ported 12 (TL806) due to its diminutive size and light weight.

Your best bet is to listen to as many cabs with your head and bass as you can. Let your ears decide.

I would expect that Reeves cabs & speaker choices are matched to, and are as good as their heads.

I have done the search .

I was not inquiring about the amp head ,
just the speaker cabinet itself or a viable alternative cabinet that might
sound nice with that amp .

From all descriptions I've read, the Reeves cab is exactly what you're looking for. Failing that, maybe an old Ampeg 215 or maybe a Berg NV215 if you can get your hands on one.

Yeah, I'd be looking at 215's, not 115's. Two of the Reeves cabs should do nicely, and don't worry about spec's, they're all but meaningless anyway. Trust your ears, and get a 2x15 cab.

That really hits home with me, nothing is more frustrating than not getting what I want to know, when I want to know it!
But; while I am more comfortable using the phone, I've found my best bet for detailed answers involving specifications etc. is email. I'm as guilty as anyone else regarding multitasking; like a lot of people I forward all of my land lines to my cell when I'm away from "home base", and I've regretted answering when I'm away from my references on more than a few occasions.
I'm tempted to let calls go to voicemail... but then that would pretty much defeat the personal service I was trying to accomplish by forwarding in the first place.

Your best bet is to listen to as many cabs with your head and bass as you can. Let your ears decide.

These quotes pretty much sum it up IMO. Tonally some of my favorite rigs predate T/S parameters, and while specs certainly have value in SR applications where the general goal is baseline colorless reproduction, I’ve found that driver specifications are of little use in musical instrument applications.

I use a variety of gig rigs, and I've been using the Reeves rig 1-3 times a month for about a year in a variety of venues with a variety of musical genres. I was also one of the players involved with field testing the Reeves bass gear in the prototype stage, but I'm not compensated or endorsed by them.
I can confidently say that the Reeves 115 is anything BUT muddy. It’s the most articulate 15” driver I’ve used for bass guitar, particularly way down deep. IMO it’s a good match for the 225 head; both are so articulate that the rig is a little unforgiving of slop or string noise. During quiet passages I’ve learned to be extremely careful around the nut.

There are a few players here on talkbass with the Reeves cabs, and since they are relatively new to the market your best bet is probably to ask their observations and use the Reeves return policy to make a final decision, because regardless of other’s experience, your ears are really all that matters when it’s your money on the table.
