Need new finish

Can anyone recommend a good luthier in the New England region. I'm looking to refurbish my 1986 G&L SB-1 and need someone to paint the body for me.
Also, what's the consensus on a maple neck that has aged gracefully. Can it (should it) be refurbished as well, or is it best to just leave well enough alone? $ to make it new?

What's wrong with the stock paint exactly?

Only reasons I ask is, the factory paint leaves it with much better value. If there are only slight scratches these can be polished out or retouched in many cases. Cheaper and you will be better off.

Other thing I would say is, it seems like most people these days prefer an honest worn instrument over a shiny fully restored thing. This is because you know what you are buying when you get the worn instrument. All sorts of horror can hide under new paint and parts are often interchanged that future owners wish hadn't. Now the instrument is all yours and you can do what you like. But I'd suggest a good clean and detail is the best bet.

You should know by now to always post pics when you cite anything (even tone ). If it looks pretty already, we'll probably tell you it's gonna cost you a few thousand.

This was the bass that I got for graduation from high school. I gave it to my brother-in-law who took it upon himself to refinish it. I got it back from him when I saw what he had done to it I repainted it as a hobby some years back, but it was my first try at such a task and it didn't come out as good as I would have liked.
