Need New Fuzz

one thing you have to watch is distortion can remove some of the low end … To prevent that I run my effects in parallel

The Amptweaker stuff has my attention, but I've yet to play anything in person.... one day I'm just gonna take a plunge on one of their products.

Also -- my Tech21 Bass Boost Fuzz is fantastic in the mix/on stage, but might be a lil lackluster at home. That's a weird compliment. The clean blend sits really nice & tight, and it doesn't feel weird... plus it has an independent boost which is super useful.

@jazznrick when you say octave fuzz are you talking about brassmaster-style octave-UP fuzz or are you talking about a fuzz with an octave DOWN added component? I've seen both mentioned here, just curious what you're after. I always like the B:assmaster of course but in the octave down category I second the Zeus and also mention the Okto Nojs, which has a unique type of fuzz that's a bit moogy IMHO.

If you're feeling slightly masochistic and adventurous, the death by audio micro harmonic transformer is absolutely phenomenal in my opinion. A little bit chaotic, but that's why it's fun. I have one on both my guitar board and my bass board

I'd have a fairfield unpleasant surprise and four eyes. 4 eyes is not made anymore so you may have to go 2nd hand. Amazing pedal, that.
Unpleasant surprise is the pedal I have had and continue to have more fun with than with anything else whilst 4 eyes is just so versatile and useful and fun...

Getting both has been a very worth while investment.

My personal favourite fuzzes at the moment are the Coloursound Hybrid Tonebender (the yellow one) and the Sanford and Sonny Bluebeard.

I actually had the opportunity to A/B the Hybrid against the Coloursound Bass Fuzz and BUM Fuzz (Jumbo Tonebender) all at Macaris, London.

What i found is that whilst the Bass Fuzz definitely had more bass, it consequently had a bigger mid scoop. The BUM Fuzz is cool but also has quite a scoop. The BUM Fuzz is quite similar to the DBA Fuzz War actually (I think they are both based on a Jumbo Tonebender).

The Hybrid TB has enough low end up to about 12:30 on the tone control but is also more aggressive. It sounds massive and doesnt get lost.

The Bluebeard is also phenomenal. With the tone bypass, i get all the mids, all the bass and all the treble and it cuts like a knife, whilst having a great "grind" that works well in a mix. The smaller form factor is an advantage over the Hybrid TB.

With one band, i'm favouring the Hybrid TB, with the other band I'm trying to decide between my modded HM2 and the Bluebeard. The HM2 is tighter, also has a fantastic grind and works really well with the band im using it in (which doesnt really call for fuzz as much).

I loved the Fairfied Unpleasant Surprise but just didnt need the gated sounds, which i felt it excelled in so let it go.

I also had alot of fun with the Pedalboard Friendly version of the Jext Telex Dizzy Tone (V5 Black Glass oc44) but ultimately found when trying to record with it, it sounded a bit mushy but obviously YMMV.

I've got videos of some of these and alot more on my Youtube Channel. The quest never ends but I think i'm happy with my Fuzz for now.

Also, I just want to give a shout out to the Ladyfuzz (its built by LifeIsUnfair Audio but sold through Ladyfuzz, which is a Zine). Its got knobs for Volume and Gain and doesnt loose lows. Its a very vintagey sounding fuzz on bass but works really well for me and i actually tend to use that more in my bluesy rock band as its lower gain and less aggressive than the Hybrid TB and so doesnt just p*ss all over the guitarist.

For me the colorsound is way over priced - there's just too little in there and good clones have been released. I'd get one of those.
That said; I went to Macaris not too long ago and tried the bass fuzz...fun it was...still way too xpnsv.
