Need new setup help.

I want to get a decent new setup of single effect pedals. I want to play funk, metal, classic rock, alternative. Alot of Rage stuff.
I currently own a boss guitar overdrive pedal, and a multi effects digitech pedal but it broke :(. I was thinking about just getting the crybaby wah 105Q bass pedal and the boss overdrive bass pedal. Any suggestions? Please help me out, and the cheaper the better, but I want good sound also.

I'd recommend buying used pedals off ebay, TB, Craigslist or anything like that. You'll get much more bang for your buck, and you can probably resell the pedals you don't like for close to what you bought them for.

As far as the RATM stuff goes, you'd probably want a distortion, fuzz, octaver, & a manual wah.

The 105q is what Tim uses for Rage (he actually uses 2 of them in Audioslave), so that would work.

Every Boss OD/Distortion that I used wasn't for me, but there are lots of people here who like them. I do like some of their other pedals though.

For cheap distortion try the Ibanez PD7 or the Proco Rat. Tim used the Marshall Gov'ner in the past also.

the 105q is great...

take a look at either the electronix messdrive hybrid+ or the visual sound jekyll and hyde. the jekyll and hyde is an extremely versatile 2- channel overdrive/distortion pedal, very bass friendly...widest variety of sounds from any one gain-based pedal ive ever heard. the messdrive is the king of all bass fuzzes, for only about $100.

i use a Ibanez PD7 OD/dist. [as was mentioned earlier] and i can get a sound thats really close to what he has at the end of that song, i dont remember the exact settings or anything tho, that said, the PD7 is a great pedal.

My suggestion: Don't bother chasing someone else's tone - it will be a source of eternal frustration for you.

Besides, when you add a lot of distortion to a bass you're thickening the note, and you're going to find yourself fighting with your guitarist(s) over who gets to occupy which frequencies. The distortion that worked so well for Tim C in RATM might not work for you in your band.

Best bet: Get a pedal with a lot of options on it, or get an EQ pedal to partner it, or get one you love the sound of and a much bigger amp than your guitarist. :D
