For smaller gigs we are using a small mixer with only four mic inputs, all of which are being. We would like to connect one at least more mic for vocals.

The mixer has 12 "balanced high-headroom line inputs" which are not all being used. Is there some kind cheap adapter/preamp that could be used to change the mic output to a line level signal? Would there be any sacrifice in signal quality?

What mixer are you using? If it's something like this (sounds like it might be):

You just get another one or maybe something smaller like the

and link them using RCA plugs from the CD/Tape output on one, to the CD/Tape input of whichever one you're using as your main mixer to power amps, etc.
