Need opinions and guidance building a space elevator.

Hey, someone had to do it. Im just glad it was mellowinman and not me... heh-heh.. Anyways, (over-simplifying) the golden objective from this project is to extract He-3 from the moon. Sadly, carbon nano-tube technology is still in its infancy; they cant extrude any fibers longer than 10 or 12 cm in length. That really limits the feasibility of fabricating a working infrastructure for the space elevator.
But who knows? maybe in 15 or 20 years, there might be some breakthrough in carbon nanotube technology which can overcome this engineering brick wall.
I'd bet the farm that there will no space elevator in the next 8 years. The technology and the money is simply not there.
but in 25 years? all bets are off.

I hope I don't get in trouble for saying so, but that shuttle in the beginning of the video looks like a space tampon.
That being said, I think we'll eventually have a space elevator, or something even crazier, more technologically advanced, and even more inconceivable. We've got some work to do before then, though.
If TB is still around and I'm still alive in 30-50 years, bumping this thread is going to be either of great satisfaction, or a little disappointment. 
If the Superman ride at Six Flags can go straight up then why not a road? You just have to drive really fast.

We won't even be close in 100 years.
I saw on a TV show how a Formula One racecar can drive upside down on a ceiling. That's how fast those are.
