Need some help finding/picking a chorus sound…

Hey all, I’m looking to add a chorus sound to my rack setup (detailed below). What I’m looking for is that 80s chorus sound…think The Cure. I have a buddy that uses the CE-1 emulation on his Zoom bass multi-fx, and it’s pretty close to what I’m looking for. Being a rack junky, I’d love to get it in a rackmount unit. If they weren’t so expensive, I’d probably go with a TC 1210. However, they’re twice the price of a good bass head these days! I’m considering a Warm Audio WA-C1 on a rack shelf. My other thought (while not a true chorus) is the Klark Teknik 3rd Dimension. Does anyone have experience with either of these on bass and can speak to them? Is there something else I should be looking at? TIA!

I like the sound of the Klark Teknik 3rd Dimension BBD-320 on the demo video here, but I don't how it sound on bass, probably nice.

Given the price, I would try it (and use Thomann's free return policy if you don't like it)

I like the fact that there's only 4 settings available.

It seems to be on the 3 references for rack chorus:

If you can find a vintage '80s digital or analog rack mount delay, they can be wonderful as chorus or flange. Look for units with modulation and feedback (regeneration) controls.
I have had great results with most any unit from ADA, Ibanez / maxon, Yamaha and mxr.
The holy Grail unit here is the Marshall Time modulator, but you're not going to find one at a reasonable price

TC 1210. They aren't cheap. But they are capable of chorus and flange, which you will need for the cure. It's similar to the SCF- which is inexpensive as a pedal.

I use the SCF. Other than the amazing sound, the SCF and 1210 have input/output sensitivity/gain. So your volume doesn't drop when you engage it, you can set it to a unity gain.

They are also very much full spectrum- some chorus pedals have a low roll off, which is not desirable on bass.

The other thing is Gallup uses flange too, and you'll want both.

SCF might be the way to go, at least until I can afford a 1210…if ever. Okay, so the short list at this point:

3rd Dimension (liking this because I can switch it on the front face panel, just not sure it’ll give me “the sound”)
SCF (on shelf)
WA-C1 (on shelf)

All can be had for under $180, and even cheaper used. So maybe I’ll just try each until I find what I like. I’ll probably pick up the SCF no matter what, because I can use it in my guitar rig.

In those days, the TC SCF, any of the BOSS CE's, there was the occasional Dimension C, and as Plectrum pointed out above, my favorite chorus from those days, the BOSS BF2 flanger: Turn the RES and the RATE way down, it's a hell of a chorus. Or you could get real nerdy and track down a Yamaha SPX90, they were everywhere.

Those were the choices back then.

I know that you'd prefer a rackmount, but I just got through selecting a chorus myself, and I had one of those moments when I found something surprising that I didn't expect with the Walrus Julia. The lag knob. I realized that as the wet signal delay is varied, it has the effect of either hiding or revealing different frequencies, so I can essentially choose which mid frequencies warble in and out. My chorus is always on, used primarily to thicken my sound, and with that lag knob I can actually hide the chorus effect without losing the widening effect. I find it quite miraculous, and when I want a super obvious chorus, I get to choose the tone of it. Also have to mention that the boss waza chorus is the most beautiful chorus I have ever used, but the Julia is the one for me.

edit - spelling

For rack, I like the chorus effects from the old TC G Major. I decided to turn on the one I have the was attached to the rack where my Demeter vtb s mounted. this weekend at my groups rehearsal and live recording. I think my unit was made in thge USA (even though they are a Danish company) and I got it for $100 - it was before the Behringer era.
