Hey guys I just got a second hand fender player dimension. It has an emg pickup in it. Opened it up and it has a battery and active pickup but I can’t seem to see a preamp. Can you guys give me a hand as to what the heck is going on here. I’m a passive player so I don’t know what the heck is happening here. Thanks in advance !!!

People tend to use the word “preamp” in two different ways:
- A tiny signal booster for underwound pickups
- A set of tone controls capable of boosting as well as attenuating different frequency bands
Thank you guys so much for clearing that up!!! Y’all are so great that would have taken me an eternity to figure out. How much do you guys think this bass is worth In Canadian currency? Only two dings in the body.
Look up the model on eBay and/or Reverb then click the “sold listings” box. Reverb may call it something different. That will tell you what others have sold for. The pickup has been changed which may or may not be a good thing depending on the buyer.
Any idea how close I should set this pickup to the strings while depressing the last fret? Just like passive or what? Sorry guys this is active stuff is new for me.
That’s a good place to start. If anything, I think EMG’s have less magnetic pull and less windings and they make up for it with the preamp so you might get away with closer then typical but start with a standard measurement and adjust from there.
Post some pics, those dimensions were great basses. I had an American Deluxe Dimension HH for a number of years but I ended up trading it a few weeks ago.
