Need some help!!

Im not an expert at setting up a bass guitar so bear with me. I have a 5 string ltd f series bass that has alot of fretbuzz / rattle on the open/ fretted b string. My setup has the relif set to 0.14 at the 8th fret with the string height being 0.60

I measured the relif at the first fret on the b string after depressing the third fret and using a feeler gauge. It barley fit a 0.02 feeler under it. But the d string is at normal height over the first fret. So the nut is clearly to low on the bass side. I applied pressure to the string just behind the nut to see if perhaps it made a difference but it didn't. I'm curious if the neck might have a twist. Any help is appreciated. Cheers

I don't see any sign of a twist. The nut may be low though I always test by fretting at the second fret and looking at clearance at the first. Still you measurement doesn't seem off to me. I would suggest trying a slightly higher action adjustment at the bridge. B strings have a significantly larger vibrating range than E strings.

I thought about that. But the b string is already about as high as id like it to be. What height do you recommend for a b string

I like to have the B string set at 3mm Action height at 12th fret.

Unfortunately there isn't a proper number. The neck geometry and condition of the frets plays a big role. Is the fret buzz audible when amplified? If not I would leave it alone.

You could always put a bit a superglue on the nut to raise the B string a little. You'll of course have to sand it down to preference.

But if you've set the B string high and still can't get rid of the fret buzz, your only solution is to give more relief to the neck. It's either got backbow or it's flat.

I guess you meant 0.060", which equates to a little over 1.5mm. That's very low for a B string, no wonder you have a lot of fret buzz.

No problem. 8/64 is close to 3.2 mm, it's quite high indeed. But it also depends on where you're measuring, as there can be almost half a millimeter between the 12th and 17th fret.

17th fret. Still buzzing. Maybe the neck is twisted ?
