I am a recent returnee to bass (been so long I am starting over). I had no idea what bass to buy so off I went to the local shop. I looked around, tried them out, and probably spent more than I needed to on my "first" bass.

In hindsight, I should have divided the money up evenly and spent as much on the amp as I did the bass. I figured for messing around the amp didn't matter as much. I can't complain about the amp I bought. It is what it is.....but I am already looking for a better one.......

Another negative about the LTD is the thing weighs about a ton. 18-20 lbs is a lot when you can get a better sounding (IMO) bass in this same price range that is only 8-9 lbs. Like some others I would check out the Ibanez SR Series ... very versatile and sound like basses that cost way more ... one of my basses is the SR506 and I love it.

I was using this as an example. Let's use car analogies instead. You want a Mercedes SL, but you can't afford one, so you start out with a Mazda Miata. You finally save enough to get the SL. Chances are you won't spend that money on a Cadillac limo instead.
