Need some recommendations here

I'm planning to buy a new bass. My budget is 800$. I know approximately what I'm looking for, but I would like to hear some other suggestion as well, because maybe I'm not taking into account some of the brands/models. Basically I'm looking for an instrument that sounds deep and fat, I don't like trebly basses and I like Fender basses. I play mostly rock (U2, Coldplay), some motown (Marvin Gaye, Stevie), some funk and acid jazz (Medeski Martin and Wood, Jamiroquai, Groove Collective). Thanks!

Sounds like a Fender P-bass is exactly what you want.

Used MIA P-Bass or a Highway One P. You could also look into a MIM P and mod it.

Then it is very simple. It doesn't sound like any bass out there will satisfy you as much as a nice fat P-bass.

If you have the chance and the price is right, try a Warwick Corvette, if you are are really lucky, a bubinga. Fat, thick sounds, woody tones.

While I love the Warwick Corvette, I think that this bass may be a bit too trebly and modern sounding for what the thread stater is looking for.

I would say unplayed I know it sounds ridiculous, but we have only one store in the whole country that trades Fender and they might or might not have 1-2 p-basses in stock for 2x USA price.

I would also like to highly recommend a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub. If you can find one in your price range, the quality will be out any standard issue fender by far, and will have just as nice tone if not better.

Get a Fender Reggie Hamilton Standard Jazz.

You get the best of both worlds with some great bells and whistles.

I think it is going to be my next electric bass.

Or get the Deluxe Active P bass Special for about $300 bucks less. You get the same pickup configuration with the P body.

Basscentral currently has a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub on their used items page. It is a beautiful three tone sunburst and the price is $775. Best p-bass for the money IMHO.

I would also suggest you consider the TB'rs stateside that have shipped internationally to help us out on this side of the ocean by selling us reasonably priced basses.
