Need the input of Ibanez six string basses owners (SR or BTB)

Hi...I think that my next bass will likely be a six string in the $900~$1,200 range. I already have two Ibanez 4 string basses, the EDA900, and ATK750KA and love them.

Here are my questions that will help me better choose my sixer:

1) There are many reviews online that says the six string SR basses like SR506 or SR706 suffer from 'intonation' problems, specially in the 2nd octave. Some say it's due to the slim neck, slim body design. Is this true? How bad is it?

2) If I go with the BTB line which is 35" scale length. Some reviews says that the longer scale length tightens all the strings, to the point that the C string sounds like coming from another instrument.
Again, is this true? And if indeed it is, can't one just change to a lower tension set of strings or somethin' to fix this?

I had a 506 and now own a btb

Both Sound Great

506 was a great instrument and is lighter then the BTB but I like 35 scales on 5 and 6 so the BTB is for me the C sounds great on the btb the way its set up I cant hear a huge difference then the 506

the B sounds fuller on the BTB though IMHO and if you put a .130 or .135 it will sound Fantastic

Being the owner of a SR406 and SR506 i can tell you that they are both the least instruments with problems i have encountered. I know the new 506's has a one piece neck as where they older models is a 5 piece neck where it looks and sounds sexy.

The intonation problem is more like with the prestige basses where the saddles can be individually adjusted and i have heard from my peers that they can be a bit hairy to adjust. I just checked the intonation on the 2nd octave and its dead on. Besides are you going to play the 2nd octave 80% of the time?

I found the B string sounds fuller with a tapered string than a non-tapered and .130 is good enough as i dont use .135.

Ibanez uses Elixir strings for stock strings so if you dont like bright sounding coated strings you might want to get something else.

I own the SR706TK. went to get a yamaha 6-string, guitar center didn't have it, picked this up, 2 hours later I was putting it on layaway.

BUT go try the basses out! what feels better for you may not be the same for me

I've had both SR's and BTB's. Innotation problem, where? On the BTB the C is more tense but its still a bass.

I own a SRX505 (admittedly not a six string) it has some pretty bad intonation problems above the 12th fret. Especially on the B string, but evident across all strings. I have tried pretty hard to tweak the saddles into intonating, but the bass just wont do it.

Did you try to get someone to set it up and see what is the cause of the problem? I'd be interested to know,although I'm now gravitating more towards the BTB.
