Need to raise my 15" combo, what do I put underneath?

Hey,

I've got a Schertler Bass Fidelity 15" combo that sounds GREAT....but.... I'm a pretty tall person and standing up practicing while the amp is on the floor makes me miss much of the tone. So I need to raise the combo on 'something', but on what? I'm guessing a hollow sort of structure underneath the amp to let the vibrations through, or am I wrong?

At home I use a square black fake leather storage ottoman with the top removed - fits perfectly and looks just like a black box. Looking for something to use on gigs...

Solved this problem by building a pair of risers. The project had been on the back burner until EVH died; I took a few days away from my other builds, and knocked these out. Super easy to build, and a fun platform for paint-- or go fancy with various woods & joinery.

Each are 7.5 inches tall. I stand 6'3", and the risers are perfect for use with my Fender Rumble 100 (controls on top), and the Mesa atop a 2x10 cab.

No problems with rattling or anything associated with the risers. If you were concerned with such a thing, just add adhesive rubber pads underneath.

Hope something here helps~

Seeing as I could use a bass amp stand myself, I think it's time for me to design and build a nice hardwood or birch plywood one.

I'm thinking it should be stout enough to reasonably support up to 100 pounds or as much as an Ampeg B15 or my 4 x 10 Eden cab at about 15" off the floor, kicked back at about 15 degrees, with some designed, built-in means of damping vibrations to the floor.

Chip Kinman from The Dils deserves some credit here. The Van Helen guys used to go see the L.A. punk bands, including the The Dils. EVH saw Chip's guitar and that inspired EVH's famous DIY Strat paint scheme.

Think I paid about $35 for this amp stand from musician's Friend holds amp/cab at 45° (not adjustable, but is adjustable for height. It holds a max of 250-lbs. I put my 52-lb. DNS-210 cab on it plus my 4.8-lb DNA-800 amp and about one pound more for my wireless Line 6 Relay G10s. Super solid.

Found a link for it here:

Be sure to get some non-slip tool-box liner to set your amp on to be sure it doesn't slip off at that angle. I bought a small roll of tool box liner from Harbor Freight. It's very thin and stays stuck where you put it It works great and is super cheap:
