Need your opinion on Dist/OD/Fuzz...

Hey guys.

I know there are alot of threads on this but i need some first-hand opinions and experience for what i am after.

I am going to buy a dist/od/fuzz pedal but cannot make my mind up. At this stage i am a big fan of the Swollen Pickle and also the El Grande Bass Fuzz. I play in an acoustic covers band and also do alot of sound experimenting at home. I want something that will keep all frequencies strong (especially lows!) and be quite versatile. I am not looking for anything too "boutique" and relatively inexpensive for what i am getting. Here is a list of what i am considering

- WH Swollen Pickle
- MXR El Grande
- EHX Bass Muff (Not sold, only because it is considered a good start or "standard")
- Source Audio Soundblox
- WH Pork Loin
- ProCo Rat
- Boss Overdrive

I know this is generic list, but i am loking for something that can be versatile. As i said, i play in an acoustic band, and am heavily influenced by Tool, Muse, Djent, RHCP and Prog/Metal. I am searching/researching TB, Youtube and Ebay.

Whats your opinion?

I would get different kinds of dirt pedals since all those bands you listed used different stomp boxes. To simplify things, I would get the Swollen Pickle and Pork Loin. STAY AWAY FROM THE EHX BASS MUFF. FAR AWAY FROM IT.

Flea from the red hot chilli peppers uses a boss odb-3 during the intro to around the world. if around the world is on your band's play list, I would say go with that pedal. that is if you're into fizzy metallic distortion pedals. if you want a smooth warm distortion, a tech 21 samsamp oxford would be a good choice. also a tech 21 sansamp leeds would be a good choice for playing progressive metal. they can provide mellow overdriven sounds that has plenty of punch.

I'd say Tech 21 VT Bass, it'll give you alot of flexible overdrive. I feel like alot of those choices you mention will squash any acoustic musicians sitting around you.
