Haha. Just seen the episode of Frasier with John Glenn. Had an extra potency to it bearing in mind what's just happened. Cheered me right up 
Yeah, the day before I turned 18, man walked on the moon. It's still one of man's greatest achievements.
Yeah I also googled "apollo 11 moon landing wallpaper", and found some great full sized pics.
Neil Armstrong was a great American. The country was very different back then. It wasn't yet cool for a majority of Americans to run the country down at every opportunity and to destroy its institutions. Americans still considered America to be great. Yes, there were protests and turmoil. Americans knew the country wasn't perfect but they also felt like there was no problem that we couldn't solve if we put our minds to it. I mean, hey, we had just put a man (two actually) on the freakin' moon hadn't we? Man, the sky wasn't even the limit any more.
I wish you all could have been there staring into that black and white TV set. Good times. Moonshot! NASA had let it all hang out and made it work. We were all so proud of those guys and felt lucky to be Americans.

I remember. Not perfectly, but I remember. Dad woke me up and brought me to the living room to watch as he explained. I was 4 years old.
I was about the same age but honestly have no recollection of it, you guys who remember it are so lucky!
I was eleven and remember it well, for those that were too young to remember or werent around yet, it was an awesome thing to see a person from this earth walking on another planet (or moon to be exact) the fact that the space program began and culminated in the lunar landing and walk during my young life was really mind blowing. I think americans felt a real collective pride in these achievments.
