Double Bass Nemesis N210 for DB

My LMS has a used Nemesis N210 RS ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) and I'm thinking about grabbing it and unloading my EA CXL 112.

Has anybody used this cab for their double bass? I'm wondering if the Nemesis will be voiced better with my Eden amp.

Thoughts? Opinions?

My set-up: chinese-factory plywood bass of unknown vintage - revolution solo p/u - ART Tube MP pre-amp - Eden WTX260.

Giving it a quick heft it in the store, the 210 seemed lighter than the EA. There's no weight listed on the above page for the 210.

A minor advantage is that my current EA cab is 4ohm while the Nemesis is 8ohm, which would be a better match for my amp, which is also 8ohm.

I'll try to see if I can A/B the cabs but that might be a few days until I find the time.

I just posted a quick reply on the 1x12 v 2x10 thread but thought I'd post more here.

I just A/B'ed the Eden Nemesis 2x10 against my EA 1x12 CXL. I had a buddy with me and we took turns playing my bass and sitting/listening in front of the amps and playing with the tone controls on my Eden WTX 260.

The 2x10 was warmer but it also was muddier. The 1x12 had better definition and had a better high-end response which neither of us could get from the 2x10, despite major knob-twiddling. This also meant a little more fingerboard noise came out, but that's to my preference.

The three upsides to the 2x10 was that it was 12lbs. lighter than the EA (though almost the same size), had a parallel out for running an extension cab, and rated at 4ohms, which is the same as my amp while the EA is 8ohm.

But that wasn't enough of an upside for me to consider it as the sound just wasn't there for me.

Now, if the ohmage (and the cash) worked out that I could run both, then that'd be nice rig with the cabs complimenting each other.

I don't play double bass. However, I did own the older version of that Nemesis combo at one point. It is a very nice amp. I sold it when I quit playing for a while and have regretted it ever since. The person who recommended it to me was a music student who played both double and electric bass and used his for both.

I used a 210 Nemesis combo for about 5 years - great little amp; very neutral sound with extended low end. But that was with BG. Now I have an Eden 210XST and Eden 112XLT. The Eden 210 sounds much the same as the Nemesis did; I love it for BG but it has too much extended low end fir upright. My 112 sounds a bit too bright and mid-rangy with my Warwick BG, but perfect for upright.
So... the Nemesis is a good speaker, but in my experience, uprights need a lot less low end than BG, so it might not be ideal unless you're happy to work the EQ.

I, also, have an older N210- great amp, as mentioned above. I've used it with BG and EUB, works well for either with some relevent eq adjustments, of course. Might be a bit too prominent on the bottom end for an upright bass but with my EUB it makes for an excellent compliment. One thing I always do when setting up is turn it on its side, stacking the 10s on top of each other- controls are harder to get to but I'm a set-and-forget guy anyway. Sideways seems to eliminate some of the muddiness and any potential phase problems, IMHO, a much better fundamental is produced. Easy enough to try, see how it works for you. Hope this helps, and hope you manage to give it a try!

I used a Nemesis 210 combo with my EB and DB for 10 years, and I agree with everything said by gjbassist, ToneRanger, and TeleTubby. Their thoughts are spot-on; the Namesis is a great value.

My current amp (for the last 6 years) is an iAMP 350 and CXL-112, and I have enjoyed it for both UB and EB (so much I bought a second CXL-112.) It is much more flexible in the tones it can reproduce.

If I were you, I'd get the CXL-112, and eventually get another cab to be able to use the full power potential of the amp. People at gigs will _notice_ your sound if you get the CXL-112.
