NEOX-212T Problem :(

My NEOX-212T arrived... plugged it in all stoked, and two issues. First, it didn't work with the speakon connection.... so I plugged in with a 1/4" just because I really wanted to hear it. And it sounded great, except that when I play low E, especially if I play it on the 5th fret of my B string, I get a really groady rattle. Low B sounds great. Mid and high E sounds great. Mainly is that low E that's rattling, and it feels like it's coming from the baffle on the LH side of the top 12. Any thoughts? I'm going to try to take it somewhere tomorrow.

Nice to see these cabs still have their place with players. Is this a carpeted or vinyl covered cab?
Depending on the condition there could be a variety of potential trouble-shooting targets. Sounds like it might be some sort of sympathetic rattle and not the woofer. I doubt it is a grille rattle as long as the screws are tight. We used cushioning under the grille which would take care of that potential issue.
If the cab has been bounced around a lot, you might check to make sure the wire leads from the crossover to the woofer are NOT laying on the back of the speaker cone, causing an intermittent issue.
As well if someone has taken a woofer out and re-installed along the way maybe the rubber mounting gasket on the woofer has been compromised. I've seen that before.
As you get a chance to take it apart, feel free to PM me and I can assist as needed.

Thanks Jeff, you're a solid dude to support something that was purchased from you years ago, on at least it's second owner. It's a carpeted cab, thanks for the info, will definitely ping you if it isn't something obvious. I can say that even though it had the rattle, I used it yesterday for a multi-band gig at work (I had made the commitment and didn't have a back-up - totally my bad). I rolled the low-mids off my head and warned everyone of the situation and it performed like a champ. I definitely was the envy of the other bass players, as everyone asked to use my rig, and between the single 212 and my MarkBass head I was definitely the loudest dude in the room, even louder than the guitarists. The room was a large cafeteria at Microsoft, say around 6000-10000 SF with 2 levels, and I didn't get my gain and volume past noon - loads of headroom left.

As a side note, the PA that was brought out by the event organizer (it was a fundraiser for a music school) was also Genz-Benz. You have some serious fans, and now I can't wait to try out a Genzler cab - likely next year at bonus time. I bought this cab based on reputation, and I was not disappointed in the least, rattle and all. :)
