Never had that done, but I had a minor nerve trunk in my left arm severed by an accident a few years back. I had no sensation over half of the back of my hand for a couple of years; the doctors told me I'd never get it back.
As it so happens, it's working fine now. The feeling just sort of filtered back slowly.
So, sorry I can't help you directly; but IME, nerves can repair themselves, if they're not too badly damaged to begin with.
Prognosis seems incredibly unpredictable for peripheral nerve regeneration, irrespective of anything but individual biology.
I think I'm doing better than was expected after Invalid Link Removed, but am amazed at how little hard info I can find on what I can do to help the odds -- from my doctor, my PT, the Internet, anybody.
