Netflix ending DVD by mail service

End of an era. I always looked forward to those red envelopes, that is until I dropped that service a few years ago.

Might affect customers in rural areas with poor or no broadband.

I remember there were many titles available on disc that they never got around to streaming.

I'm guilty of not supporting it, I suppose.

End of an era for sure. I remember looking forward to getting the latest discs to watch since the newer releases weren't available to stream. This was before Amazon Prime, of course.

And I have a Netflix subscription. You’re saying I can go to the Salvation Army store and buy a DVD player and rent a DVD from them one more time?

Also, 1,000 times out of 1,000 Netflix won’t have the movie I am searching for anyway. All they have is Last Chance U and F1.

My dad uses my Netflix. I never watch it. I had no idea they still did DVDs.

Honestly I never thought Redbox would ever take off. But it's still going strong.

Used to love their DVD catalog. They had some hard to find titles that will likely never see the light of day on any streaming service. I can’t remember the last time I played a DVD, though.

We don't even have a DVD player in the house anymore. Also, no VHS, 8-track, CD, Beta Max, Laser Disc, cassette, or (insert other media vehicle here).

I am in a pretty rural area and have used Netflix in the mail in the past. Up until about 2 years ago we had no high speed internet options. We had a Family video in town and I’m very thankful I was able to take take my 10 year old there up until COVId started. They closed shortly before. I always loved looking through the racks looking for cinematic treasures to watch.

Same here. I also sold off or donated all my physical media. Outside of a few vinyl records that I rarely play, I've got nothing.

I'll be going on a trip to the back country of Ohio in a couple weeks. The place we're staying has satellite internet, which isn't much good for anything more demanding than cruising TB. I'll be taking my DVD player.

During the early pandemic months, I borrowed a ton of DVDs from the library. Between three different county library systems I have access to, there is a lot of great stuff to be watched.
