Only the best! Isn't it amazing how many bands are gaining popularity off of a sound that they pioneered over a decade ago?
This is true, however, I think a lot of the bands that are influenced by Neurosis do the same thing but better. Of course I am judging this off of the only Neurosis album that I own, The Eye of Every Storm, which is a good album but not a great album. My problem with Neurosis, judging off that album, is that they tend to be ultra repetitive and unable to sustain interest over the course of their very long songs.
Still they are an ultra-important band without which many of my favorite artists would not be around or would, at the least, sound very, very different.
In regards to the topic though what equipment does their bassist use he has great tone.
To be fair, The Eye of Every Storm is not one of their better albums. Try Enemy of the Sun or Through Silver in Blood, especially the latter.
+1. Try anything since Enemy of the Sun other than Eye of Every Storm. Not that I dislike EoES so much, but it just doesn't live up to the other stuff they've done.
I'm going to the show in NYC on the 25th. I don't have a camera, but I'll try to take mental notes, and if my girlfriend brings hers I'll try to get a pic.
It's funny, when I saw them the last time, I was standing right at the stage, right at Dave Edwardson's feet. At the time I was not a pedal nerd, so I couldn't identify anything. All I remembered was that he had several pedals, none of them were Boss pedals, and they weren't on a board. Oh, and he played synth through the pedals as well as bass. He just switched the cord. He should get an A/B box.
Neurosis is so amazing. Their shows are just the best. I'm really excited.
After you posted this I just went to their myspace and listened to the tracks they had up there and yeah, it kinda sounds like I bought the wrong album. I'll go buy one of those 2 albums and give em another shot.
Hey y'all - I just joined the talkbass forum and was looking up stuff on pedalboards and see that people are interested in my setup. I'll take a picture soon and give a description of the signal flow. I'm about to take it out for one last weekend this Saturday and Sunday in Seattle.After that I'm having some of the stuff modded by Robert Keely, adding a few more things and getting a true-bypass switcher (most likely from Loopmaster) and putting it all on a nice board/flightcase (probably a Stompin Ground). I'll get some George L's cables for the thing. My old system, tho' fairly reliable is definitely on the janky side, homemade y-cables abound, lotsa duct-tape, very signal-lossy... Anyway, I'll post the new one when I'm thru in a couple months - Dave Ed

At the Brooklyn show I didn't get even the slightest glimpse at your stuff, beacuse it was all behind a monitor. I guess I did see that there was some rack compressor? I noticed some of Steve Von Till's gear (TB-switcher, MIDI switcher, etc., seems complicated), but then I just rocked out.

Whoa, this is pretty cool. Through Silver in Blood changed my life. And good to meet some other pedal fiends here. 
oh **** - DAVES HERE! i just saw them in Seattle and i looked at his board after the show. pretty much everything had tape and paint on it, but i took a few guesses - MIGHT NOT BE ACCURATE THOUGH - i think i saw an Ibanez analog delay, a boss bass chorus, and maybe an old big muff? bassically nothing was obvious.
great show though, seems like the ol bass rig was given you a hassle that night - loved that last piece that went into a noise dirge with a bad ass drum beat - i was like **** YES!!!!!

You really need to get some other albums. Anything really, they haven't released a weak one, although you might not like the hardcore of the first two.
I couldn't disagree more when you say other bands influenced by them do the same thing but 'better'. I've yet to hear one of these post-hardcore bands that comes close in intensity.
