I'd add the Speakon jack, but I don't think that I'd eliminate the 1/4" jacks. Finding a 1/4" cable at odd hours in the middle of nowhere can sometimes be much easier to locate than a Speakon. At least keep your options open.
In addition to this good advice, I'd get a 1/4"-to-Speakon cable made and keep it with your gear in case you have a cab or an amp quit and you have to use another unit with 1/4" jacks only on it. There are also Speakon-to-female-1/4" adapters (I keep two of these) available.
Waste of money and time. Just keep what you have.
My Acme B-2's have a 1/4", Speakon, and banana plug connections. Banana plugs are great when dealing with power amp applications: you can re-assign stereo > bridged mono (...if necessary) by simply spanning the two center "+" posts. OTOH, there's nothing worse than the cheap crap I've run across. I use these:
The problem is that our amplifiers are ever increasing in power and the Phone plug was designed for about 48V DC at a current of a couple of tenths of an amp. In today’s world of bass they are completely beyond their ratings.
My Series I cabinets didn’t come with a SpeakOn. I retrofitted the phone jacks as I previously posted.
I think Speakons are way overrated, and 1/4" is fine. I never use Speakons and I really don't give a crap what anyone else says.
My new pf800 speaker outs is one of each, both cabs only have 1\4" only! I prefer using both outs so bought extra cables so have spares at all times. My Marshall and hartke cabs use combo ins that feel good! Was kinda disappointed portaflex cabs only 1\4", maybe upgrade after warranty expires?
FYI Neutrik make very nice 1/4" stuff but I believe they invented and patented / licenced out the SpeakOn, seeing a need for something convenient that wasn't a fire hazard like banana plugs, for big amps.

looking on line at the various Neutrik Speakon - 1/4" combo jacks available, it seems most if not all that I see are designed to mount to a PCB board. are there ones that are made to be mounted in a cabinet just like the regular Speakon? preferably replace the regular one. if so, can someone link to them?

Looks like I can ditch the banana plug on the cab and rivet in (thanks Bassman Paul!) a speakon jack. Ordered the bulkhead jack, and enough plugs to fabricate a speakon to speakon, 1/4" to speakon and 1/4" to 1/4". So I'll be set. Already have some 14 AWG but will probably pick up some 12. The Neutrik (jumbo) 1'4" plug will accept up to 3/8" jacket. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR HELP!

I'm partial to Double Banana Plugs (Pomona #MDP), as they easily accept #12 ga. speaker wire, and don't protrude as much as a 1/4" or Speakon connector (good for tight stages.)
I find them very secure, BTW, and not at all easy to accidentally pull out.
Full Disclosure: I've built all 3 of my speaker cabinets : (1-12, 1-15, 10+15+Tweeter+compression driver), so it was my choice.
