Neve DI for Daw using the "thru" for amp question

Hi all,

Noob question here I have a Rupert Neve RNDI that I use for DAW recording. I am wanting to run it through my amp so that I can hear the amp and cab when I track simple lines instead of using headphones.

I am looking for confirmation that I have it setup correctly so that I don't mess up my amp, as I am a little confused about the " speaker" switch on it needing load.

Gear:
Active bass
Bergantino B|amp
Bergantino NXT 212 cab

I was going to run it this way-
Bass in to the input of DI. plug the "through" into the input of the B amp.
Leave on instrument switch instead of speaker.
run XLR out of DI into daw channel.

Does this sound correct or am I missing something? I did search forums first but could not find exactly the correct answer, albeit an easy one I am sure.
Any advice is appreciated !

Sounds right to me - it's basically what I do with my Bassbone OD.

Bass into the Neve DI. Come out of the 1/4” though connector to the amp. XLR to the interface of the DAW.

You’ll need phantom power for the RNDI. But I’m guessing you already knew that....

Thanks a lot ! The only thing that confused me was the"speaker" setting. I wanted to make sure I could simply hear my amp and cab without frying anything

The Neve DI gives you two options.

1. You grab the signal before it hits the amp, that's when you set it to Instrument - this is the most common way to use a DI. It's the setup you describe in your post.

2. You grab the signal between amp and cab, so you catch your amp's sound. That's when you set it to 'speaker'.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. I guess the thing about the "speaker" setting that confused me is if I would need to plug it into a different place on the amp as opposed to the regular input that the instrument normally goes into

using the "speaker" option will give you the complete sound of your amp (pre + power). This can be particularly useful with all tube amps where you want to get the sound of both the tube pre and tube power section into your recorded (or FOH) tone.

There are several DI's that will handle speaker level. I happen to use a Country Man 85 for this purpose. Sounds like the Neve will do it too.

Hi guys,

I have a similar question, looking to use my Guitar with my Neve RNDI like OP said, and like this video.

Im not fully sure how to set it up with cables etc, would really appreciate any help as I dont want to blow up anything!
