Not sure. It just comes down to whether I design my own enclosure or use one of Hammond's. I actually really like the enclosure I put the prototypes in, so I might use that and get it released sooner.

It would only be a bit smaller, I just really want to design a box without draft angles because it's easier to design in.

Voodoo Labs Pedal Power II will get you 18v no sweat. Every pedal junkie should have, at the minimum, a Pedaltrain with the PPII on the underside. I think even a Fuel Tank jr. will do 18v also.

i forget and am too lazy (and hungry... dinner TIME) to look it up..... but the PPII has an 18v output? or are you talking about wiring 2 9v cables together?

i think the Supa Charger is 12 volts on the higher settings for the two outputs that WILL go higher. but i could be wrong. again, lazy and hungry.

Yes, the PPII+ has a "Y" cable that takes up two ports for 18v

bah. i run off of one spots, always have.

i wonder if any local music shop (there are 3 within 10 minutes of my house) will carry an 18v pedal adaptor? the wall wart will fit pretty easily on the surge protector stuck on my board. (ironically, because i made all the space when i had the vintage mutron on there.)

Only thing I noticed is that when put next to my MXR pedals, this one is about a 1/4" - 3/8" taller. Nothing really major, especially given the size of the original Mutron.

BBE Says that 5 and 6 on the Supa Charger can run at 16v.

From the T-Rex, the Fuel Tank jr. will do 18v.

Been playing around with the new 3 Leaf Mu-Tron clone for the last hour. It sounds great! Initial reaction is a thumbs up.

It's easily the closest to my Haz Labs III+ in a small-footprint format. However, the 3 Leaf is definitely more like the classic Musitronics 'Tron. (Wider peaks, slightly burpier flavor, a little less deep low-end pass through and likes to be pushed harder before engaging the sweep.) It's pretty subtle differences between the HAZ and Musitronics, but the 3 Leaf is definitely more like the later.

I've become so accustomed to my III+ that the 3 Leaf will take some getting used to as far as right hand dynamics, but I still know how to work it! Only time, gigs and some sessions will tell whether I ultimately embrace the old-school burp of the 3 Leaf, or the more controlled quack of the III+.



Construction of my prototype 3 Leaf is great! I actually like the matte black powder coat and hand written labels. (I'm sure the production model will change, of course!) The Hammond enclosure is only slightly larger (height, mostly) than a classic MXR box. Knobs & switches all function smoothly.

Overall average output volume is very close to unity. It's probably a little more "compressed" than a classic Musitronics, but in a good way. It definitely doesn't 'sting' you with its' peaks like a Q-Tron. Noise floor is nil in LP and BP modes. HP is pretty quiet as well, even as the filter opens up as you play.

The "Gain" control isn't as sensitive at lower settings as I'd like. I tend to need to keep it almost dimed to take advantage of full right-hand playing dynamics. My higher output active 5 string actually works a little better with it than my passive 4's, but not much. The pedal likes a heavier touch, for sure.

I used both a 9v and 18v power supply with the 3 Leaf. Honestly, I hear very little difference. There's maybe a tiny bit more range to the peak, but it's negligible in my opinion. I wouldn't stress about getting an 18v supply.

The pedal also has an internal switch for true bypass or buffered bypass.


I need more time to get to know the 3 Leaf Tron clone better. First impressions are really great, though!

I do prefer a filter that is a bit easier to get to open up. That was the BIG PLUS with the GR.

I typically play with a light touch and most of the other filters on the market really seemed that you really had to wank on it to get anything. The FX25 comes to mind but there are others too. If you adjust the sensitivity too low they open more easily but at that point seem to go over the top.

I noticed no appreciable difference with 18v other than perhaps a little more range to the peak knob. (Not enough to hear in a mix!)

With 18v I still had to dig in more than I like to. Felt the same to me.

Yup. Tried a booster in front & gave the "Gain" knob a lot more usable range! It definitely works better for me with the booster, but there's a problem. The overall boosted signal starts to distort/clip other devices downstream. Is there a way to adjust the threshold of the filter so it triggers earlier in the "Gain" range without a booster pedal?
