new 3leaf preamp!

Anyone else got one? Really considerig using this for some bass playing on the go and maybe some recording...

I posted this a couple days agot on the 3Leaf Audio club page:

Here is my fast review:

"I FINALLY got a chance to play the Enabler last night... I only got to play with it for 20 minutes or so (the wifey had a long to do list for me yesterday) and so far I really like it.

Chain: Dingwall 5 string> Enabler>Genz Benz Shuttlemax 900> 2x fEARful 15/6/1s.

I found it very clean with the ability to add a mellow bottom end and extra punch when needed. It doesn't have the grit of a VT bass or BDDI EQ pedals, but I have dirt/fuzz pedals for that. I love that it has a DI box built in and will be perfect for barebones gigs where I am just playing into the board and not taking my entire pedal setup.

It sounded very close to my GB SM900 in FET channel with the added bonus of fitting in my pocket!

I definitely see this little wonder box taking up permanent residence in my gig bag for vacations (headphone amp), a backup DI for gigs, and my one pedal stomp box for barebones shows. It would definitely be on my full time pedalboard if it wasn't for already having the VT bass Deluxe..... who am I kidding, I'll probably still put it on!

Thanks Spencer! Now I just have to wait for my Wonderlove to arrive!"

This nice box looks like a modern version of my trusty Raven Labs PHA-1. Anyone care to compare the preamp and headphone merits of both (the Raven lacks a DI but has a loop, etc. so they aren't completely similar)? P.S., love my Groove Regulator, and now the Wonderlove has me wondering... 3Leaf is cool.

What are you guys using to power The Enabler? According to the manual it can draw up to 300ma when the headphone amp's in use, that's more than a PP2+ can handle on a single output.

300mA is the absolute maximum that it can possibly draw (your headphones would probably have to be on the order of 8ohms to reach that kind of current draw) - the 250mA from a PP2 will probably be fine for normal use.

yeah i tried that, but its the lows in all the wrong frequencies that bug me. it always sounds hollow too.

What headphones are you using? It sounds like that is the culprit more than the unit you are using to practice with. For a long while I had used Shure E2c IEMs and never liked practicing with them...I even blamed the bad tone on my bass. I then started using other IEMs/headphones and I see that I was wrong about blaming it on my gear. I'm using cheaper IEMs and headphones but am getting better results : IEM- Philips 3580 (crazy sub-bass response), headphones - Yamaha RH5ma (really smooth bass and mids).

The PHA-1 also has a line out which can be used similar to a DI (ie...my church's digital snake has 1/4" inputs). The bigger difference I see though is that the 3leaf has a pre/post switch...very nice thing to have!

Various grado models.

The Beyers are naturally scooped, with a wide dip in the response around 4k. I think this makes them sound a bit better with a direct bass signal than most headphones.

Headphones: Sennheiser HD280 PRO Closed-Back Headphones ($99.00) have performed very well in headphone tests:

Thanks for the info guys.
