New Aguilar Rig

AG500 with DB112s is going to be really strong in the midrange. Just be sure you're looking for very focussed mid-punch if you go that way. I would see the AG as being better with the GS112s, and the 750 better with the DBs.

+1

what he said, and then some.

the DB112's are ok for kicking thru that super dense mix of 10 keyboards onstage, but frankly, that ballpeen hammer like midrange would seem like it'd get fatiguing after a few sets.

the GS112's a great cab, and the EQ on the AG500 is nicely matched to it. extra kick to punch thru? hit the low mids knob. need more definition? hit the high mids. too honky in the the mids, pull back on either. need to get a fatter sound in general? crank that lows knob. again, the EQ is magic pants w/ the GS112.

Yea im pretty set on this rig, im basiically gonna be trying it blind, but i dont think ill be too unhappy. Ive been listening to some erykah badu, and he uses a 412 with the db750 and also a marcus miller jazz bass. My sound wont be too far off from that right? will be kinda mini version? check out the clip here, its basically the sound that im going for
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. What do you guys think

I see a DB750 and a pair of GS410s in that vid

With Aguilar gear it is important to remember that the various pieces all sound very different from one another. There is no one Aguilar sound.

I had a DB410 for a while, and its just about the last cab I'd choose to try to nail that tone, especially with an AG500 on top.

I just sold my AG500SC and am selling my GS112's but only to downsize (I'm selling my Whappo Jr and will be selling the GBE-1200 also) - I changed over to the Berg HT/EX combo.

If you are playing larger halls with a LOUD band the 2x12 is not going to cut it. If you have PA support they certainly will! I really liked the Aggie rig and the amp and cabs are a great match - highly recommended.

dan,

how loud we talkin? what sort of sonic competition?

IMO, if you are willing to cart a 212 around you might as well just use your 410 about the same as far as portability. btw there are always GS112s for sale in the tb classifieds for good prices. Someone has a pair of them for sale right now for $600 That's about $150 less than buying a new GS212.

Can someone please tell me the difference between the GS and DB series cabinets.
I asked this question in another thread, and just got referred to aguilar' s website. Which has a generic answer.
I play mostly reggae and electronic. but a little pop rock from time to time ...if that should/would steer me towards one cab or another.
Thanks

not trying to hijack this thread.

If you guys were already using a pair of (8 ohm) GS112s, would you

a) add two more GS112s
b) add one more GS112
c) add a GS212

I'm leaning towards a 4 ohm GS212 like maestro here, but then again, adding a third 8 ohm GS112 might do the trick.

I've done the 3 GS112 thing before and thought it worked great. I decided to sell one of my GS112s awhile back and now kind of regret it. Keep in mind, you'd need an amp that can handle a 2.6 ohm load,or a stereo power amp. I was using mine with a stereo power amp and a sans amp bddi.
Another option would be to get an 8 ohm GS212 and set one of your GS112s on top of it. That would still give you 3 112s in your rig while not going below 4 ohms. The only problem would be that the cabs are not the same width or depth so I'm not sure how they would stack.
Here's a pic of my 3 aggie stack.

and a video of Gary Willis using 3 GS112s.

Oh yeah, one more thing.
The cool part about the rig you see above with the stereo power amp was, I had the top two cabs powered by one channel of the power amp and the bottom cab powered by the second channel so if I played in a boomy room I could reduce the volume of the lower cab reducing the boominess of the rig. That made it real easy to taylor my rig to the room I was playing.

thanks for the reply cb56. I currently use an Avatar 210 w/ my two GS112s and a stereo power amp. It works well, but I am going to replace the Avatar in the future (the avatar was free) with something more uniform. I get the tone I like from the GS112s but I can't get the volume I need w/o the 210. That makes me think that adding a third GS112 might be the ticket. Granted I do set the HPF on my power amp to 50hz for the 210. One of these days I need to try setting it at 30hz and see if it makes a difference.

That gary willis video is awesome! That is some freakin' fretless tone all right, damn! thanks again,

-amos

edit: what Aguilar model amp does he use?
