New Am. Deluxe Jazz- Wine Trans flaws??

I just unboxed my 2011 Fender American Deluxe Jazz in wine transparent. The first thing i noticed was a small dark spot in the grain that I found rather unsightly. I looked everthing else over and other than some excess glue that makes the nut a little sloppy looking, the fit and finish is great. Plugged it in my initial reaction was that I liked the neck and tone.

I am adding some pictures to this post for your input. These were taken with my phone. I can update with better pics if needed.

I can send the bass back with no questions asked. However, I wonder if I am being a little petty about what I percieve as a "flaw" in the wood grain. I got a great deal and in general I do like the bass.

I bought an awesome grained ash body tele a few years back and 1st thing a buddy (music lover, not player) noticed was a slight abberation in the wood. Hey, it is wood remember, not plastic.This tele body looked almost like notebook paper lines in a 2 tone burst and looked, played and sounded awesome.Good weight too.

Seriously, if you like the bass that much, keep it. I'd consider that 'smudge' something that would help identify the bass as yours.

I looked at the thumbnail of the first pic and thought the black line of text was the imperfection. That would've been something I'd complain about too. But the small round dark spot in the wood? That's nothing, maybe it even gives a little more character to it. Don't return this one.

Could we get pics of the full bass too? Looks like you've got a real beauty there.

I'll break out the camera and get some better full shots tonight. I am very impressed with this bass thus far. I just wanted to make sure that what I thought was nothing, was in fact nothing.

Im really really picky, but if the rest of the bass is perfect, and the strings line up to pups and neck, etc, id keep it. The next will probably be a duffer!

The finish "flaw" isn't bad. It could be much worse. I'd say keep it. The excess glue at the nut is something I would never notice on a bass. My own basses could have things like that and I'd never notice, let alone notice on sombeody elses. And I bet with a little elbow grease you could get that out anyways.

I wouldn't see that as an imperfection, it's part of the properties wood has, it's a product of nature. Not ugly at all (and I should tell you I'm a perfectionist). I like the bass, it's on top of my GAS list btw... exactly in that finish, binding etcetera (5 string though).
