New amp day; Darkglass Exponent 500

WOW! So transparent, clean, quiet, and so many amazing features and effects. I won't use a ton of the effects, but just having five presets is a really nice bonus. Only had it for a few hours, but am really loving it! This will eliminate my pedalboard, and drastically reduce the weight of my load in/out. Built in tuner is really awesome too!! I'm really impressed.

Hey! Another PJB CAB-67 user! Not too many of us around, apparently...

I have a DNA 1350 that I use for a head, but I often use the Effects Return input for my Darkglass ADAM. The 1350's own preamp is great for that big-&-warm clean sound David was known for, but ADAM dialed-in for just a touch of grit is a surprisingly-good classic roll sound!

I love the 67!!! The exponent is really the last piece of the rig. I am so happy to be done with that colored Ampeg tone. BASS

The e500 is some serious fun. I just use it for home practice , I tend to avoid to much knob turning on gigs. I was surprised at how quickly I became familiar with the Darkglass Suite software. And I frequently find myself altering presets I’ve previously created. It’s fun to spin the knobs.
I usually run mine with a little C2 cab!

The e500 is some serious fun. I just use it for home practice , I tend to avoid to much knob turning on gigs. I was surprised at how quickly I became familiar with the Darkglass Suite software. And I frequently find myself altering presets I’ve previously created. It’s fun to spin the knobs.

I was wondering that also, they look blank from the photos here. It is screened.
It seems a neat Digital amp. Even Midi controlled for presets.

Quick-Pots
There are five Quick-Pots on Exponent⁵⁰⁰’s front panel (A, B, C, D and E) .

By default, these pots are mapped to the Amp EQ’s four frequency bands and a preset-specific control.

In the Darkglass Suite, you can freely bind the Quick-Pots to your selection of any five controls from the effects in your signal chain.

Preset
Pressing the preset button changes through presets 1 to 5 and a bypass signal. The current preset is shown with a single LED next to the preset number.

When Exponent⁵⁰⁰ is bypassed, all preset LEDs show a dim white color.

Long-press the preset button to start Bluetooth pairing. All preset LEDs will breathe white while pairing is active.



Darkglass Suite
Exponent⁵⁰⁰ comes preloaded with five versatile factory presets. Using Exponent⁵⁰⁰ with the Darkglass Suite isn’t necessary, but we recommend it!

Darkglass Suite unlocks the full potential of Exponent⁵⁰⁰ by providing an interface to interact and modify the signal chain running on each preset.

Use the iOS or Android versions of the Darkglass Suite to create, edit, share, and apply presets. Please make sure your Darkglass Suite version is 4.3.0 or newer!

The knobs are assignable for eq, pedal functions, etc. The amp remembers where you had them set, so even if you switch to another patch, and turn all the knobs, when you switch back, the lights will be set to where you last had them, regardless of where the knobs are. Until you turn them, then they reset. Very intuitive.

On MSB's picture, there was nothing visual on the face plate, that's why I asked the question. A follow-up picture is different and shows some graphics.

It’s hard to see the graphics in my pic , but there’s not much there. Gain and volume , the rest you assign for the presets you create and save.
You can load five presets at a time and store as many as you create. You program the head with a phone or tablet using the Darkglass software.
It’s pretty intuitive to program. Edit … there are LEDs around all of the knobs except the input knob, so you can quickly see where the controls are set. In the software program you can quickly check where you’ve assigned the pots.

Not a gig rig for me , but it’s fun to twist the knobs and play around with at home.

sorry. This is surely a silly question but how do you keep tour c2 from burning? Just keeping the master volume on the e500 down? Or to you use something like JHS’s amp box to reduce the volume?

I am asking because I am seriously interested on the e500 but I don’t have (and I don’t think I want) a 500w cabinet. The 200w of the C2 seems perfect but I am scared of the wattage missmatch

The e500 is rated as 500 watts into a 4 ohms load, and will be 250-300 watts into a 8 ohms load: Darkglass doesn't state the actual amount.
The C2 is an 8 ohms cabinet, so I'm guessing that @msb is just being very careful not to overpower the cab.

If you are interested, someone from DG just told me that they will “launch the MIDI footswitch at the NAMM Show, this device can control the Exponent 500 and all our amplifiers/programmable pedals.”

I just use it at a really low volume , the C2 is not a loud cab. It’s not suitable for gigs. I recently picked up a Barefaced 0ne10 to drag out to rehearsals. It’s a small cab that sounds great , and will get surprisingly loud.
