IMHO $900 is a fair deal for that amp.
From what I understand Bill Hughes, who was lead in designing the original Ampeg SVT, was also lead on this amp. The output section is sort of an update of the SVT output section. Totally different preamp and tone controls though. The output section on this amp is noted for lot's of clean power. Most consider it an all tube amp because it has tubes throughout the signal path. But you could argue it's more of a hybrid, as there are actually a lot of solid state components in the signal path. Sorry if you were hoping for pure all tube, but keep in mind my Sadowsky SA200 and Aguilar DB359 also have a few FETs in the signal path. The SA200 in particular is a highly coveted amp.
They continued making the Fender Bassman 300 Pro for some time after the Sunn 300T was discontinued. If you compare the last Sunn schematic to the last Fender schematic, there were some minor changes for reliability...I remember finding the wattage of a few components somewhere in the bias supply were uprated. This is a guess, but my assumption is the original wattage was too low, and if the component fried the amp would loose bias and fry the output tubes.

Bassman300srvc2.doc (thetubestore.com) I suggest using it as a reference rather than the Sunn schematic. In other words, if the amp ever needs to be repaired, use the Fender component values.
Another change is the recommended bias was lowered from 100mV to 80mV. I believe there is a label on the back that says 100mV, so keep this in mind.
