I just weighed my rack today. 78 pounds! Time to replace my beloved SWR. I run 3 8 ohm cabinets. 5 string modulus. Grateful dead style music. There are 2 drummers and 3 guitarists. I need 2 ohms mono and at least 900 watts

Carvin. Most people don't do 2 Ohm, but all of Carvin's do. They are well priced, reliable, and sound good.

You're grouping Peavey in with Behringer and First Act?

IMO, my Tour 700 head was the best sounding head I demoed that was in the price range I paid for it. 5 year warranty? This thing is built like a tank...

I wouldn't be ruling out Peavey, but it's your decision.

No not at all. Sorry for that misconception. Peavey is way up the ladder than that. However, I am much more into my SWR sound. I love my SWR Bass 750, but just cannot do the weight of it any longer. By the way, my SWR uses an ECC83s preamp tube, which I prefer over the 12AX7 whatevers..

The Aguilar DB751 goes to 2 Ohms, but is 42 pounds!
This is frustrating! I am now even thinking I may have to change to a 6x10 cabinet instead of my Mini 12 and 1212 so I do not have to keep at 2 Ohms.

What weight are you trying to get down to?

What type of bass. how many strings, and what type of music do you play?

What kind of sound are you looking for, uber clean, mean and nasty distortion, ETC...

What about a pre & power rig?

Tons of nice preamps out there: Alembic, Aguilar, Demeter, Ampeg . . .
and several light weight & powerful power amps that will do 2 ohms (or 4 + 4).

In my rack - As follows
1 sp ETA Power Conditioner
1 sp Korg DTR1 Tuner
1 sp Rane PE15 Parametric EQ
3 sp SWR Bass 750
All contained in an original 1992 SKB 6U rack! I guess that weighs 15 pounds alone!
Anyway, my Bass 750 is 33 pounds.
I play a Modulus 5 string Quantum. I play Grateful Dead style music (we do 90% original).
Not looking to get down to anything specific except a managable weight. Don't really know what that is.
I am looking for UBER FAT clean tight sound. My SWR Bass 750 is almost exactly what I am looking for. Almost, that is what my Parametric EQ is for. Other than that, I like the warmth and great TONE from my bass and my amp.
I use a Schroeder (original design) Mini 12 no horn, A Schroeder (original design) 1212 and a SWR Bass Monitor loaded with a Eminence Delta speaker (same as in my Schroeders) and a Lesson Tweeter.
I use George L's cable (.225) for my cable. In the back of my rig I use all Neutik cable and connectors for speaker and effects.

Eden WT800C with those cabs. 2ohms all day.

I use a 4 ohm load (d210xst and d410xlt) in bridged mono mode and get plenty of sound...

Do you use the Washburn/Eden or the original Eden? Have you had any issues with the Eden and if so, how were they to get resolved?

ETA - 8 pounds
SWR - 33 pounds
SKB - 15 pounds
Rane - 9 pounds
DTR - 4 pounds
Cables must then weigh about 4 or 5 pounds.

Look at the new SWR Headlite and Amplite micros. The combo runs 800 watts, drives 4 8 ohm cabinets if you like and has the same basic SWR preamp....... all at about 8 pounds and 1 rack space total. I haven't owned an SWR since my first generation Redhead ('88?) but I'm seriously looking at this pairing.

Yes,
They add the power together to have 800 watts.
with 4 ohms.
The street price is fair - 1248 USD.
Around the price of SM-500.
It is far smaller and lighter, with more power.
Of course, the EQ section is simplflied.

What about the Genz Benz Suttlemax 12.0? I know there is a huge thread on these, but it is a dual block combinable amp with 800w and 7 pounds. It also has a tube and will run 2 8Ohm cabinets on one side and 1 8Ohm cabinet on the other
