New Ampeg PF20-T - very low Transformer Output volume.

Hey, so JimmyM, if I understand, pf-50t does have weak Transformed balanced output line? Something like my ex SVT3-pro for which sound engineers always complained about weak signal? Or does it have something aprox. the same level as SVT7-pro?

Not weak at all, just that your settings reflect the volume the tranny DI puts out. Never been a problem for me.

Ok, thanks, I never tested, but I always thought that I would wanted for my output signal to come out as strong as possible, while sound engineres often uses a mixers which doesnt have quallity preamps in it and if they are raising input/gain levels, they are somehow coloring/changing my sound...

Yet if they don't have quality preamps, if the signal is too strong the preamp will distort.

The level is well within the range that is considered mic level.

I think there is some confusion in terminology. I was speaking about "line level signal" and "mic level signal".

Btw.: what makes you think that the "transformer out" is "line output" and the "preamp out" is "DI"?

I have one of these amps. They're designed for recording and capturing the Motown sound of the old Ampeg FlipTop. They have two distinct DI (XLR balanced) outputs and an 8 ohm speaker out. The 1st DI can be assigned pre or post tube gain/baxandall tone stack, the 2nd DI is the PF-20T's secret sauce post power amp/output transformer. Idea being able to capture all of the tube goodness without mic'ing the cabinet. Of course I like to capture a pre DI, the transformer out & an EV 635A on the cabinet that way I get a failsafe clean DI, direct take off the amp & the mic track for air and ambience
