New ampp

Hi Mizzi man,

I'm from Malta also. I've tried the Ashdowns in Birkirkara. I think that those amps have a decent sound but if its power you want you need to look elsewhere IMHO.

As far as I can know the amps available in Malta are Gallien Kruger, Ampeg, Laney, Trace Elliot, Fender, SWR and Aguilar. Then there is a host of other smaller brands such as beringher which I would frankly ignore (at least the models which you find in Malta).

Of the above list I have tried the aguilar. The store in question only has one in stock and whilst its beautiful and very powerful, its really quite expensive. I've also had a Trace Elliot for a small while and it served me well and I think that they are good amps - not sure about the prices though.

I've tried the ampegs and I was not particularly impressed by the sound but that is totally subjective. Also, I've felt that it is only the expensive high end ampeg amps which are really worth considering.

As amps in Malta go, I feel that currently you cannot get a better deal than on the Gallien Kruger amps. The 700RB-IV was marked at a bit less than Lm300 (not sure about the Euro values). This is quite a powerful amp. For really not much more you can get the 1001-RB which should provide you with all the power you need.
