a quad of el84's for Bass duty? i'm skeptical....
Don't be. My Mesa F-30 (2 EL84s with some funky power circuitry to bring output to 30w) is plenty loud for small gigs (or more with a bigger/more efficient cab) and sounds fantastic for bass.

it's because the head takes up airspace in the cab, so if you leave the head in it, you're cutting down on your cab's airspace, which also cuts down on low end. the only way to make it work to where the cab sounds as intended is to increase the overall cab volume, which of course makes it a bigger cab, and in the case of a tube amp, much bigger. guitar amps can get away with it easier because low end response isn't as important as it is with us.I know the B15, great amp, same principle though. Why would it have to be a heavier and bigger cab? There is clearly enough room to fit the electronics inside already. (I mean this as a legitimate question, not as condescending). I should be able to be the same size and be like moving a combo amp.
