New Avatar 4ohm 600w 4x10...eBay STEAL

So I got this puppy for 330 + shipping brand new on eBay. It looks great, can't wait to fire it up. The only downside is that at 600w and 4ohm, it can't handle much power...i found a used LM3 for 350 before tax, so I think I'll throw that on top. I'd rather get something 800w or up, but with such a low-rated cab wouldn't that be a waste?

600 watts is pretty realistic power handling for a 410.

Don't get hung up on wattage ratings, because they really tell you nothing about real world power handling capabilities.

Haha so then what do I go on? And hence the real question: with a 4ohm 600w cab, how do you maximize headroom without damaging the speakers?

No those are thermal specs, and dont mean much about true power handling.

You have to learn to use your ears - if it starts sounding bad, turn down and/or reduce your low end EQ.

The "wattage rating" of a speaker does not take into account the speakers real world bass frequency power limitations (take a guitar speaker rated at 100w and give it 100w of bass).

Most commercially available bass cabs run out of low end and start farting out at around half their wattage rating (depending on your use of low end EQ).

I think the reason you get it cheap is because it is loaded with Celestions correct? Not the standard speaker that Dave uses in his cabs.

It has Eminence Basslites in it. It still sounds killer, though the best note it seems to produce is a low F#, as it starts to compress beneath that...

You must be running at a "very" high volume level.....

My two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets driven by my G.K. MB-500 head can get absolutely insanely LOUD with no notes hitting compress.
My set-up will over take the heavy hitting drummer, 6 pcs., country/rock group I work with if I let it.

Yeah, don't get hung up on the cab rating. I have a 90's Genz Benz 4ohm, 4x10 that handles 600w. Trust me it's LOUD and I don't ever have my amp anywhere near maxed!
