find a local guitar center they usually carry both those Basses take your daughter in and have her try them both out before just buying either one. good luck!! personally I would go for fender PJ !I know I'm opening up a can of worms but my daughter is looking to buy a bass and I need some advice. We have the opportunity to buy either a 2015 Fender Active Precision Bass Deluxe or a Geddy Lee. Both are Mexican models and are £500...I don't know which to go for.
They are both 2 hours away (in opposite directions) so I need to choose one to see first. She has 'adult' sized hands and wants to play pop-punk. I know a lot of pop -punk bands use the p bass but the Geddy Lee has so many good reviews. I spoke to the local GC and the guy said the active p bass is able to do what the Geddy Lee can do in terms of sound and more as it has the active system. He said the Geddy Lee has a more Jazz sound so it wouldn't be as easy to create the 'pop-punk' sound. I'd really value some help. She doesn't yet have the experience to be able to make an 'informed' choice so I'm looking for some help.
Both are in good condition but the Geddy Lee has had the varnish on the neck sanded down.
Help!!!

Squier P vintage modified or classic vibe and the other money for shoes and clothes, no more needed.
+100 to that!Regardless of which bass she gets it is cool that she is playing bass and cool that you are supportive of her desire to do so!
Totally agree, my singer is a 5-0 100lb. lady who bought a squier vintage modified jaguar (with the P/J pickup configuration) to learn the instrument and it kills. I would have no problem playing it live as opposed to my "superior" American Fender Jazz or AVRI '58 P basses! For the money it cannot be beat.^^^^ THIS...all the way THIS. Those Squires are LIGHTYEARS beyond the stuff most of us grew up playing in the 80s/90s...and a hell of a lot less worry than giving a thousand dollar instrument to a teenager
I agree with BIGEJ2 ... also the jazz bass can be used for rock and punk music.Thank you for your reply. Very helpful. 99.9% of her fav bands play the p bass and listening to the videos on youtube it has a very different sound to the jazz bass. The guy selling the Geddy Lee was saying the signature bass is a better quality bass for the price but I'm not sure.

Well, since one dose of GAS deserves another…
Fender Special Edition Deluxe PJ Bass
…apparently, they revived it as a recent Special Edition.
