Amplified double basses are famous for feedback problems as well as achieving a good room level balance with other instruments depending on the venue. I have had good results using a simple KNA piezo pickup and an MXR 10 band equalizer to tailor my bass sound to the challenges of various rooms.

I have a bass max. I need to adjust the pickup position each time I use it. Slide it North or South (toward fingerboard or bridge) East or west (toward trable or bass side) rotate it...the tone changes significantly with each small move. I have learned how to do this by ear each time I play. My other bass has a full circle, no problem.

Maybe there’s not enough pressure on it.
Try shimming with a piece of cardboard or a thin reed, etc. to see if the output is more even, less dependant on position.
